ASTON MARTIN ACCELERATES TOWARDS GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED

70 years since Aston Martin first raced at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, the luxury British manufacturer returns to Goodwood Festival of Speed as this year’s featured marque. There have been many significant moments in Aston Martin’s long-standing relationship with Goodwood and this year will be no different with Aston Martin showcasing its bold new future and highlights from its past. 

Included in this year’s event will be the global dynamic debut of the DBS Superleggera Volante and the limited edition, Vantage AMR. Unveiled earlier this year, Aston Martin has introduced a 7-speed manual transmission to its true sports car, Vantage. Also featuring dynamic tweaks inspired by motorsport, Vantage AMR delivers a heightened driving experience while commemorating Aston Martin’s 1-2 win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a limited edition ‘Vantage 59’ livery.

There will also be an opportunity to see the Rapide E dynamically for the first time in the UK with the high-performance battery electric sportscar driving up the hill from the First Glance paddock. The first electric Aston Martin, driven at Festival of Speed by Aston Martin Racing works driver Darren Turner, is powered by an 800V electrical architecture battery with a 65kWh installed capacity. The battery system powers two rear-mounted electric motors that produce a combined target output of just over 610PS and a colossal 950Nm of torque.

Festival of Speed will also be the first time that Aston Martin’s first SUV, DBX, will be heard as it runs up the hill from the First Glance paddock. Due to be unveiled at the end of 2019, the camouflaged pre-production will be driven by Aston Martin’s Chief Engineer, Matt Becker, who will put the SUV through its paces as it nears its global launch date.

Included in the Supercar Paddock will be the Lava Collection which features each of the four Vanquish Zagatos in the now iconic paint colour, Lava Red. Between the four V12 engines there is almost 2,400bhp with only 99 Volantes, Coupes and Shooting Brakes built – only 28 Speedsters were made. The project was announced in 2016 with the final car in the series, Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake delivered to customers this year. The four models will be joined by the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation which will be on display in Aston Martin hospitality, adding to the celebration of 100 years of Zagato. Aston Martin Vulcan AMR Pro will also be running, and the current World Endurance Racing Vantage GTE will also be driven up the hill by Aston Martin Racing works driver Jonny Adam who has just returned from competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Other nods to Aston Martin’s rich history will be made with attendance from great racing cars from pasts successes at Brooklands, Circuit de la Sarthe and Silverstone. Each car will feature in the Aston Martin moment which will occur each day of the Festival of Speed honouring 106-years of racing history.

GOODWOOD PRESENTS THE JIM CLARK TRUST WITH £53,000 FUNDRAISING FROM THIS YEAR’S FESTIVAL OF SPEED

The Jim Clark Trust is delighted to announce that £53,000 was raised by donations from Goodwood Festival of Speed visitors over the four-day event weekend held this summer (12-15 July 2018). The official charity of the Festival, the proceeds will help to celebrate the memory of one of the most successful and admired motor racing legends of all time, with plans for a new Jim Clark Museum.

The Jim Clark Trust would like to thank the generosity of all those who donated over the course of the event, as well as guests at the Goodwood House Saturday Night Party, the Goodwood Road Racing Club and in particular, the Duke of Richmond and Gordon for inviting the Trust to be the chosen charity for this year’s event.

This year’s Festival of Speed 2018 marked the 50th anniversary of 1968 with a competition launched to win the 100,000th Lotus ever made to raise funds for the charity ­– a Jim Clark special edition Lotus Evora GT410 Sport inspired by Jim’s famous 1960’s Elan and created by Lotus Exclusive. The winner of the competition will be announced at the opening of the new Jim Clark Museum in summer 2019. Motorsport fans around the world are encouraged to enter this amazing competition at www.jimclarklotus.com.

The new, expanded Jim Clark Museum is being built to preserve the memory and display some of the incredible cars in which Jim Clark raced. The new £1.6m museum is funded by a partnership between the Heritage Lottery Fund, Scottish Borders Council and The Jim Clark Trust. The building works began in June 2018 and the new museum is expected to open in summer 2019.

The Jim Clark Trust is committed to £300,000 funding towards the project. The current plans have space for two race cars and the Trust is now seeking additional funds to explore plans to increase the number of cars on display in the future. The Trust, whose aims are focused on heritage, education and inspiration is run by relatives of Jim Clark and is reliant on public support. In recent years fundraising has included events, grants, crowdfunding, merchandise, and special edition memorabilia such as driving gloves and a commemorative whisky.

The launch of the Jim Clark special edition Lotus Evora GT410 Sport competition is the most ambitious fundraising campaign to date and has attracted interest from Jim Clark fans, F1, classic and motorsport fans around the world. The Lotus Evora includes special features such as a Scottish tartan interior, classic wooden gear knob, Jim Clark signature and discreet interior plaque making this 100,000th Lotus truly unique. The launch of the competition was attended by the Duke of Richmond and Gordon, a Patron of the Trust, with Group Lotus CEO Feng Qingfeng.

Over the course of the Festival, The Jim Clark Trust welcomed visitors to their stand with an exhibition featuring the life of Jim Clark as a racing driver and farmer in the Scottish Borders, historic memorabilia and a display of classic and modern race cars. Honorary President of the Trust Sir Jackie Stewart commemorated the 50th anniversary of 1968 by driving Jim’s Lotus 25 up the Hill Climb with Doug Niven, Jim’s cousin and Family Trustee, in a Lotus Cortina. Plans for the new museum also received the support of FIA President Jean Todt announced as a new Patron of the Trust at the Festival of Speed.

Commentating on the presentation of the funds raised from this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, Ben Smith, Secretary of the Jim Clark Trust, said, “The support of Goodwood and donations raised by the thousands of visitors to this year’s Festival of Speed visitors is tremendous and we are extremely grateful. A sincere thank you must go to the Duke of Richmond and Gordon, the army of bucket collectors and volunteers who helped to support the fundraising over four memorable days at this year’s event. MASERATI AT THE 20th GOODWOOD REVIVAL

Last weekend, Maserati took part in the 20th anniversary of the glamorous Goodwood Revival held at the famous racing circuit in West Sussex which captures the automotive world as it was from 1948 to 1966 with both competitors and spectators in period dress.

As an Automotive Partner of Goodwood Revival, Maserati once again took part in the Earl’s Court Motor Show with a display inspired by the marque’s classic 1960s motor show stands. Maserati’s future and past appeared in perfect harmony, as Maserati showcased the brands first SUV, the Levante GranLusso, finished in Blu Emozione with Zegna interiors alongside the executive saloon, the Ghibli GranSport in Bianco Alpi. The two modern cars were joined on the stand by a stunning red 1964 Sebring Series 1.

Over twenty classic Maserati models, including a 3500GT, Tipo 61 ‘Birdcage’ along with five examples of the iconic 250F, were competing at Revival, featuring in races across the three-day event. Maserati cars took to the circuit competing in the Kinrara Trophy, Goodwood Trophy, Freddie March Memorial Trophy, Richmond & Gordon Trophies and Sussex Trophy. Highlights from the weekend included a victory in the Goodwood Trophy on Saturday afternoon for former British GT Champion Callum Lockie in the 1938 Maserati 6CM, as well as a fifth-place finish in the Freddie March Memorial Trophy for Conrad Ulrich in a 1955 Maserati 300S.

Guests of Maserati were able to experience old-world glamour at the Revival, enjoying exclusive hospitality at Goodwood House on Sunday, and being chauffeur driven to and from the Revival in a fleet of Maserati Levante, Quattroporte and Ghibli models.

HAGERTY’S RENAISSANCE MEETING PROVES A WONDERFUL SUPPORT ACT FOR THE GOODWOOD REVIVAL

• The inaugural Hagerty Renaissance Meeting established to show live footage of the Goodwood Revival was attended by over 250 pre-tax vehicles and almost 1,000 people
• Goodwood’s live footage of their signature event wowed those who attended the Renaissance
• The Renaissance meeting echoed the Revival with all participants entering into the spirit of the event and dressing in vintage outfits

Last Sunday, 9th September, over 250 pre-tax vehicles arrived at Bicester Heritage to take part in the inaugural Hagerty Renaissance Meeting – An Alternative Revival, an opportunity for those unable to attend the Goodwood Revival to enjoy all the track activities from the historic race circuit in West Sussex on a large screen.

Classic vehicle insurance specialists Hagerty International created the event with the full backing of the Goodwood Revival team. Hosting the event at Bicester Heritage provided a truly exceptional backdrop to the screening. The event was complete with vintage hairdressers, the Home Guard in action, a few local air displays and everyone was dressed for the occasion.

The event also supported Goodwood’s chosen charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund and raised £255 for this excellent cause by giving away Renaissance pin badges in exchange for a donation to the charity.

‘We had a really terrific day, and everyone made such an effort to get into the spirit of the event with their vehicles, picnics and clothes. It was just like being at the event itself’ said Angus Forsyth, Managing Director of Hagerty International.

‘The Goodwood Revival still sets the benchmark for the classic car world and we were delighted that Bicester Heritage could play a part in sharing its magic’ said Dan Geoghegan Managing Director of Bicester Heritage. 

Participant, Pan Trudy said ‘Many thanks for to the team that organised the Renaissance at Bicester Heritage. This was the event of the year for us as we have done the Revival for the last 17 years, but due to ill health decided not to go, instead watched Friday and Saturday on Youtube. Please, please, please do it again next year; the atmosphere was great!’

Stylish duo Gary and Linda Davis won a pair of tickets to the Revival 2019 after being judged ‘Best Dressed Couple’, their outfits complete with lots of ‘50s accessories such as a Roberts radio, retro turntable and with a stunning Chevrolet. ‘We love Goodwood’ said Gary ‘but were not able to attend this year, so the Renaissance is the perfect way to enjoy the Revival without actually bring present. It’s a brilliant idea and we’ve had a great day.’

ROLLS-ROYCE CELEBRATES 
2018 GOODWOOD REVIVAL

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will celebrate the 2018 Goodwood Revival this weekend – the 20th anniversary of the event – with a significant presence at the legendary motor circuit. The centrepiece will be the March Motor Works, this year set in the swinging ‘60’s. The Works include a period Rolls‑Royce showroom, recapturing the sights, sounds and atmosphere of one the marque’s glamorous locations during the same period.

Within the showroom, a stunning 1966 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Continental Drophead Coupé by Mulliner Park Ward will be displayed. The exquisite four-seater played a central role in the 1966 British film classic, ‘Blow-Up’, directed by Michelangelo Antonioni and starring David Hemmings, Vanessa Redgrave, Sarah Miles and internationally renowned ‘Super Model’, Veruschka. The authentic set features a promotion for the film, with actors portraying the stars being interviewed on set for a period fashion magazine.

Rolls-Royce will be represented on the famous motor circuit itself throughout the event by a handsome 1966 Rolls-Royce Phantom V Touring Limousine (PV 23 design), with a body by coachbuilder James Young. Finished in ivory over black and one of very few made with Hooper rear windows, this splendid touring limousine will form part of the Course Director’s entourage. Invited guests will have the opportunity to experience the marque’s legendary ‘magic carpet ride’ for themselves, in period luxury, if only marginally disturbed by the ticking of the original mechanical clock!

An exclusive fleet of contemporary Rolls-Royce motor cars will also be evident in the Goodwood area during the Revival weekend with invited VIP guests being conveyed in luxury from the Home of Rolls-Royce, located on the South-Eastern corner of the Goodwood Estate.
