AT MEF, THE “TIMELESS MASTERPIECES” EXHIBITION CREATES A DIALOGUE BETWEEN FERRARI CARS AND OTHER ICONS OF STYLE

Maranello, 21 March 2019 – The Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena unveils a new exhibition, “Timeless Masterpieces”, with some of the most elegant cars in the history of the marque on display.

When selecting the models, the curators of this collection focused on Gran Turismo and sports models, both for their iconic value and for the important role they played in the stylistic revolution of the Ferrari brand, giving shape to the aesthetic vision of their respective eras and leaving their mark on the automotive industry and beyond.

The 166 Inter from 1948 and the 750 Monza from 1954 were chosen to open the exhibition, two seductive symbols of the post-war economic boom. The 250 California from 1957 continues this legendary series, followed by the 250 GTO from 1962 and the 365 GTS4 from 1969 to name just a few, as well as the more recent Ferrari California from 2008 and the GTC4Lusso from 2016. This extraordinary procession is brought to a close by the Ferrari Monza SP1, brought out last year, an innovative reinterpretation of the classic Barchetta cars of the fifties. These models eloquently demonstrate how a car can become a universal and eternal symbol of beauty.

The cars are presented alongside other iconic products from a number of different sectors, drawing attention to the links between them, from furniture to electronics and architecture accompanied by legends of music and cinema, in a refined to-and-fro of cross-references and mutual influences.

A series of cases display objects, works of art and images of famous faces in chronological order, revealing unexpected associations and unusual couplings with Ferrari cars from the various eras. The exhibition serves as an invitation to view automotive design from a different perspective, as an expression of broader creative and cultural movements, with a streamlined style that has been growing and developing since the thirties, in search of the degree of customisation that distinguishes today's luxury vehicle market.

"Timeless Masterpieces" establishes a dialogue between different worlds, helping visitors to understand how the various stylistic features and symbols of each era have developed, bringing the emotions that they have given us in the past to life once again.

Julian Reddyhough and Gus Pope have achieved a convincing victory in Bespoke Rallies’ inaugural Pyrenees 1000 event aboard an Aston Martin DB5. A new four-day contest of, as the name suggests, 1000km, the regularity rally began and ended in Pamplona, Spain (as in The Running Of The Bulls), and passed through some of Europe’s most stunning mountain scenery, including areas of France and Andorra. The eclectic array of competing cars ranged in age from an immaculately-presented 1926 Bentley 3 Litre to a modern Lotus Elise, and included such sporting automotive icons as a Ferrari Boxer, AC Cobra, Jaguar E-Type and MGA, in addition to the triumphant Aston Martin.

Having been worthy winners of the same company’s recent Highland 1000 rally, the pilots of the 1969 E-Type, Nick Seaton-Burridge and Dennis Greenslade, were intent on further success, but an almost faultless second day run from Andorra to Pau by the Aston Martin team left the Jaguar boys fighting over second place with the Cobra pairing of Dominic Manser and Jill Brum. Ultimately, it was dropped points by the latter on the final passage from Pau to Pamplona that allowed Seaton-Burridge and Greenslade to claim the runners-up spot.

Commented Bespoke Rallies director John Brigden: “The stunning scenery combined with perfect conditions throughout to make this a memorable event, and a big hit with the competitors. Under the circumstances, we will have no hesitation in running it again in 2019, be it in May rather than in early Autumn.”

The final event on Bespoke Rallies’ packed international calendar of 2018 will be the Grand Prix of South America. A 10,000km adventure through the wilds of Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia, it will run from October 18 to November 17. E-TYPE UK COMPLETES 1,500 MILE MOTORING CLASSIC RALLY IN STYLE

• E-Type UK complete the Motoring Classic Rally in a fully restored 1963 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Roadster
• The 1,500-mile route began in Seattle and concluded at Pebble Beach, California

Leading specialists E-Type UK brought a piece of British style to the 2018 Pebble Beach Motoring Classic Rally, a 1,500-mile rally winding its way from Seattle to California.

With founder Marcus Holland at the wheel of a stunning 1963 Jaguar E-Type 3.8, fully restored by E-Type UK, the rally covered roughly 150 miles per day through highways, mountain passes and quaint American towns.

Setting off from the Woodmark Hotel alongside 19 other superlative classics, from pre-war Bentleys to 1960s Ferrari and Lamborghini supercars, the route headed towards the coast via a number of picturesque locations.

A particular highlight included the usually snow-lined Stevens Pass in Washington, where the E-Type got to display its spritely handling characteristics, before arriving into the Bavarian-style village of Leavenworth which was constructed in the same era as the iconic Jaguar.

The mountain passes continued as the rally ventured further south through Mount Adams and Mount Hood with the E-Type tackling some extreme weather and arriving at the Timberline Lodge, as seen in ‘The Shining’.

Heading further south still, the journey took in the Crater Lake National Park, the Avenue of the Giants with the scenery proving as breathtaking as the roads. In the final days, a stop was made to view one of the most significant Mercedes-Benz collections in the world, the Keller Collection, before pushing on and heading to the end destination, The Lodge at Pebble Beach.

The E-Type performed superbly, a testament to not only the work of E-Type UK but also the superb grand touring capabilities of these stunning machines. There was little time for rest, however, as a sister company, DM Historics showed an incredible unrestored 1953 Jaguar XK120 FHC at the illustrious Pebble Beach Concours.
